About Treehouse Media

On the Island since 2003

A full-service media and marketing agency in Victoria, BC — strategic planning, media buying, digital marketing and creative, handled by one team.

Who we are

A full-service agency, not a collection of vendors

Treehouse Media is a full-service media and marketing agency providing strategic planning, media buying, digital marketing and creative services. From initial strategy through launch and execution, we develop insightful, innovative and customized solutions that help clients reach ideal audiences, grow their businesses and create memorable connections with their customers.

Founded in 2003, Treehouse Media was an early adopter of digital marketing and one of the first agencies in Victoria to embrace its potential. Today we work with clients across Western Canada, combining three decades of experience with a forward-thinking approach across traditional and digital media.

How we work

Strong results start with strong relationships.

That is not a sentiment. It is the reason our clients have been with us for as long as they have. By taking the time to understand each client's business, goals and needs, we become a trusted growth partner — delivering thoughtful, high-quality work with close attention to detail, and making every investment count.

It means we know your business well enough to tell you when something is a bad idea. It means the person who plans your media is the person who buys it, reports on it, and answers the phone when you call. And it means we treat your budget the way we would treat our own.

One team

From strategy through to reporting

Most organizations end up with a media agency, a creative agency, a web developer, and someone handling search — four sets of invoices and four versions of the story. Treehouse was built to work differently.

01

Research and strategy first

Every engagement starts with the same question: who are we actually trying to reach, and what will move them? We look at the audience, the market, the competitors and the numbers before we recommend a single placement.

02

Media planning and buying under one roof

Digital and traditional are planned together rather than competing for the same budget, and bought by people who negotiate these rates every week.

03

Creative built for the media it runs in

Our creative team designs to the placement — the format, the environment, and the moment the audience is in. Nothing is resized and hoped for.

04

Reporting you can actually read

Clear, consistent reporting that shows what ran, what it cost, what it produced, and what we are changing next. No dashboards you need a translator for.

Working together

Three ways clients engage us

Some relationships run for a decade, some for a single launch. All three start the same way — with the research.

01

Ongoing partnership

Most of our relationships are long-term: a monthly or annual media budget we plan, buy, optimize and report on, with creative produced as it is needed.

02

Project-based

A campaign, a rebrand, a website, a launch. Defined scope, defined timeline, defined cost.

03

Strategy and audit

Sometimes an organization has the team but not the plan. We can do the research and strategy work and hand it over.

Digital advertising

Every dollar accounted for

Research, strategy and analytics — plus hands-on management of the platforms your customers are actually using, by people who look at the numbers every week.

Overview

Researched, built, optimized weekly

We plan and manage campaigns across Google Ads, paid social, YouTube, connected TV and emerging AI platforms — researched, built, optimized weekly and reported clearly.

Every account is structured properly before it launches, tracked against objectives set in numbers, and managed by a named person who knows it. Nothing is left running on automation and reviewed at quarter end.

Working on a digital advertising campaign
Why it works

Why it outperforms

Digital advertising is not better than traditional media. It is different, and it does three things traditional cannot.

01

It targets intent, not just audience

Traditional media reaches people who match a profile. Search reaches people at the exact moment they have decided they need something.

02

It is measurable to the dollar

You can see what a click cost, what a lead cost, and which campaign produced it. That does not make traditional media unmeasurable — it makes digital accountable in a way that changes how budget gets allocated.

03

It can be changed on Tuesday

A print buy is locked. A digital campaign that is underperforming can be restructured the same day. Over a quarter, that difference compounds.

Platforms

Where we run, and why

Google Ads01

Search, Performance Max, Display, Shopping and remarketing. Search is where high intent lives, and it is where most of our clients see the clearest return. We build accounts properly — tight structure, disciplined negative keywords, real conversion tracking — and manage them actively rather than letting automation run unattended.

Facebook02

Still the broadest reach available in Canada, and still the strongest platform for detailed audience targeting and remarketing. Particularly effective for local businesses, events, real estate and anything with a visual story to tell.

Instagram03

Where discovery happens. Strong for brand building, launches, tourism, hospitality, real estate and consumer products — and the natural top of the funnel that feeds branded search.

LinkedIn04

The platform for B2B, professional services, recruitment and anything sold to an organization rather than a person. Targeting by job title, seniority, company size and industry is unmatched, and the cost per click reflects it.

TikTok05

Fast-growing reach well beyond the audience most people assume. Rewards native, unpolished creative over adapted television spots, and delivers efficient reach when the creative is right for the platform.

Reddit06

Communities organized by genuine interest rather than demographics. Useful for reaching considered-purchase audiences who are actively researching, and for categories where people ask strangers for advice before they buy.

YouTube07

The reach of television with the targeting of digital. Skippable and non-skippable formats, targeting by interest, search behaviour and viewing history, and full measurement — including whether someone went on to visit your site.

ChatGPT08

A meaningful share of research that used to begin with a search engine now begins with an AI assistant, and advertising and visibility inside those tools are developing quickly. We are already working in this space so our clients are positioned early rather than catching up.

Connected TV09

Streaming television — targeted by household, measurable, and bought without the waste of a broad broadcast buy. It is how a growing share of the audience now watches, and it lets a regional advertiser buy premium video that would once have been out of reach.

Search

Social sparks the interest. Search closes it.

While social platforms excel at sparking initial interest, Google Search often serves as the essential destination for research, validation and conversion.

Social discovery triggers a research phase. High-intent consumers frequently turn to Search to verify details, compare options and validate decisions that began as impulse browsing.

Someone sees a development on Instagram on Sunday evening and searches the name on Monday morning — and if you are not there for that search, the interest you paid to create gets handed to whoever is.

That is why we rarely recommend social without search, and why we treat the two as one campaign rather than two line items.

Process

How it works

01

Research

Who is the audience, where do they spend attention, what are they searching for, and what are your competitors already paying for? We look at search demand, platform behaviour and the historical performance of anything you have run before.

02

Strategy

We set the objective in numbers, choose the platforms that can deliver it, and allocate budget accordingly — including deciding what not to run. A plan that spreads a small budget across six platforms is not a plan.

03

Build

Account structure, audience targeting, keyword sets, negative keywords, conversion tracking, and creative built to the specifications of each placement. Tracking is set up before launch, not after someone asks for a report.

04

Optimize

Campaigns are reviewed continuously, not left to run. Budget moves toward what is working, underperforming placements are cut, search terms are pruned, and creative is refreshed before fatigue sets in.

05

Report

Regular reporting in plain language: what ran, what it cost, what it produced, and what we are changing next.

  • A named person who knows your account and answers the phone
Questions

Common questions

What is the minimum budget worth spending?

It depends entirely on the category and the competition — a niche B2B search campaign can work on a fraction of what a competitive real estate market demands. We will tell you honestly if a budget is too small to produce a result, rather than taking it and disappointing you.

How quickly will we see results?

Search campaigns often produce leads in the first week. Awareness and consideration campaigns take longer to show up in the numbers, which is why we agree what we are measuring before we launch.

Can you work with our existing accounts?

Yes, and we usually start with an audit of what is already running. It is common to find meaningful savings in an account nobody has restructured in a few years.

Traditional advertising

The rates you get depend on who is asking

Radio, television, print, out-of-home and direct mail — researched, planned, negotiated and placed by media buyers who work these markets every week.

Approach

Research and strategy

Traditional media is often bought on habit — the same stations, the same paper, the same weeks as last year. We start further back.

We look at who you need to reach, where their attention actually is, and what reach and frequency you need to be remembered rather than merely seen. We use ratings and circulation data, coverage maps and market research to build a plan, then we say plainly which parts of the plan we are least confident about.

Inside the work

What a media buyer actually does

This is the part of the industry that is least visible from the outside, so here is the plain version.

01

Negotiation

Rate cards are an opening position. What you pay depends on volume, timing, relationship and how well the buyer knows what inventory is sitting unsold. We buy across many clients and many markets, which gives us leverage a single advertiser buying once a year does not have.

02

Facilitation

Someone has to specify the buy, confirm the schedule, deliver the materials in the right format by the right deadline, verify that the spots ran as ordered, chase the make-goods when they did not, and reconcile every invoice against the plan. That is the work. It is unglamorous and it is where money is quietly saved or quietly lost.

03

Added value

Bonus spots, upgraded positions, promotional integration, contest inclusion and event tie-ins are routinely available and rarely offered unprompted. We ask, every time.

04

Independence from the vendor

A station representative works for the station. We work for you, across every vendor, which means we can compare a radio buy honestly against a transit buy and recommend the one that serves you better.

Channels

What we plan and buy

Five channels, each with a different job. We buy all of them, and we will tell you which ones your objective does not need.

Channel

Print

Newspaper, magazine, community and trade publications. Still highly effective for specific audiences — particularly older demographics, local community reach, and specialised trade and industry titles where the readership is exactly the buyer.

Radio

Frequency, immediacy and local presence, at a cost per thousand that remains among the most efficient in media. Excellent for time-sensitive offers, events, and building familiarity with a name in a defined geographic market.

  • Spot
  • Sponsorship
  • Live read
  • Promotions
Channel

Television

The remaining medium with genuine mass reach and the emotional range that comes with sight, sound and motion. Bought across broadcast, cable and specialty, and increasingly planned alongside connected TV so the same message reaches both audiences.

Channel

Out-of-home

Unskippable, geographically precise, and impossible to block. Out-of-home builds presence in a market in a way nothing else can — and it works hardest when it is planned around the routes people actually travel.

  • Transit display
  • Curb-side

Channel

Direct mail

The most precisely targetable traditional medium available. Reach a defined postal walk, a neighbourhood, or a mailing list of your own, with a physical piece that stays in the house. Particularly effective for real estate, local services, and any offer tied to a specific geography.

  • Postal walk
  • Neighbourhood
  • List
  • Oversized formats

Together

Traditional builds the demand. Digital captures it.

The old argument about which of these works better has never been especially useful. They do different jobs.

A radio and transit campaign that runs while nobody is bidding on your branded search terms is handing warm prospects to a competitor for the price of a click.

Because we plan and buy both, we watch what happens to search volume and site traffic when a traditional campaign goes up — which is also the most honest measurement of traditional media available to a regional advertiser.

Questions

Common questions

Is traditional advertising still worth it?

For the right objective, yes — and it is often less competitive than it was ten years ago, which can make the rates favourable. For a brand that needs to be known in a defined market, out-of-home and radio remain difficult to beat.

How do you measure it?

Reach and frequency against the audited data, plus what we can observe on the digital side: branded search volume, direct site traffic, call volume and enquiry patterns during and after a flight.

Do you charge us more than buying direct?

No. Our buying power and the added value we negotiate typically mean a plan through us costs less than the same plan bought direct.

Creative

Built to run, not just to look good

Full-scale creative support — brand, print, digital, environmental and content — designed by people who know exactly where the work is going.

Approach

Never designed in the abstract

Our creative team works across every format a campaign needs, from a logo to a billboard to a fifty-page annual report.

The advantage of creative that sits inside a media agency is that it is never designed in the abstract. We know the dimensions, the resolution, the viewing distance, the dwell time and the deadline before we start — so the work is made for the placement rather than adapted to fit it afterwards.

Discipline

Brand & identity

Naming support, logo design, colour and typography systems, and the guidelines that keep it all consistent once it leaves our hands. We build identities that work at every size a business actually needs — from a favicon to a building.

Not every brand needs replacing. Often the identity is sound and the application has drifted. We can modernise what is there and give your team a system they can hold to.

Questions

Common questions

Can we hire you for creative only?

Yes. Plenty of clients come to us for a brand, a website or a campaign without any media attached.

Do we own the files?

Yes. On completion you receive the working files, the final assets and the brand guidelines.

Can you work with our existing brand guidelines?

Of course. A good portion of our work is executing well inside a system somebody else built.
